The Green Connection was preparing the display of the banded sea krait (Laticauda colubrina) when it was realised that the snake specimens were heavily infested with ticks.
These ticks must be worth further study. How do they breathe? They are small arachnids ( related to spiders) living on the blood. Do they get oxygen from the water? Air? or blood of the snake?
How do they reproduce? Eggs laid in the cave when the snake comes to land? Who knows but it would be a great project to find out.
How to get rid of the ticks? A freshwater bath was tried. see what happens in my next post.
Dear Sir or Mrs,
I am a German student(22) of Coast- and Sea management in the Netherlands. I am looking for an internship from August/September until end of January. I am a big fan of reptile and I have self snakes and many other animals. Is there any possibility to do an internship with your organization? I already have traveled a lot and speak German, English, Spanish and Dutch.
If you need any further information, do wait to contact me at any time.
Your sincerely
Leonard Sonten
