TRACC are trying to document which corals spawn in which months. We are teaching the Coral reef ecology 101 course during the predicted times for the Coral spawning event during the months of April, May & June. The lucky participants will witness this National Geographic special with their own eyes.
Mass spawning in Singapore occurs in April and May while spawning in the Philippines appears to peak in May but TRACC has recorded spawning at Pulau Layang Layang & Kudat (Sabah Malaysia) in June and again in September. The available evidence indicates that mass spawning occurs when the water has warmed to near the annual maximum. The water temperature in Pom Pom in March 2012 was cool at 25 deg rather than the normal 28-29deg C. We expect spawning to occur April, May & June with a possibility of more species spawning in July & August
Join us to celebrate the warm water and watch the coral spawn. The turtle nesting also increases during April, May & June. Divers early in the season may be lucky enough to see turtle mating.
Bring a camera and an underwater torch to witness this unique and fascinating event.
