logs on the beach

The beaches of Pom Pom island get lots of logs washed up.

Huge log washed onto Pom Pom Island beach.

These form a physical barrier for the turtles which stops the female turtles from getting off the beach and upto the grass & bushes behind the high tide line.

Logs at the back of the beach create a major barrier for nesting turtles.

Our solution is to cut the logs f possible otherwise we burn them where they land.  A once a month bonfire party with 5 or 6 bonfires keeps the main turtle beach clear of logs and debris.

A log pile ready for burning.
