Marine Conservation 101

Marine Conservation 101 is an introductory course to the unique problems of conservation of underwater life.  Aimed at qualified divers explores the issues and options available to protect planet ocean. Special emphasis is given to tropical issues, turtles, sharks, mangrove, seagrass & coral reefs.  (Course schedule & costs)

Our planet & impacts of global climate change, Estuaries, Coastal zones, Continental shelf & open ocean.

Current threats to the Oceans Ecosystems
Habitat loss, overfishing, pollution, species decline and extinction.

Challenges of Marine Conservation.
Why Marine protected areas, Species or ecosystem: which to protect? Management problems, size, enforcement, environment, Making it work with networks

Critical species and habitats
Keystone species, Humphead wrasse, Crown of thorns starfish, sharks, trigger fish, sea cucumbers, links between ecosystems
