We are going to develop a Beach Resort on stilts over a beautiful blue lagoon next to a white sand beach on a desert island in Sabah, East Malaysia.
Sabah is in the centre of SE Asia at the North End of the island of Borneo. Very close to Sipadan, there is a market for a full service resort hotel. The existing hotels are excellent dive destinations but they focus on one market segment. The large tourist market in Sabah is for non divers who still want to experience marine life adventures. With a beautiful location and fantastic scenery, we will build a full service resort with pools, restaurants and all amenities. From the beach will be excellent snorkelling and nearby is world class diving but for the majority of guests, the submarine, glass bottom boats, aquariums and on site snorkel pool will be exciting excursions into the marine life of Sipadan. The important attractions for most guests will be the same as resorts around the world, location, scenery, facilities and service.
The tourism industry in Sabah is growing rapidly, tourist numbers increased by 17% in past 3 years. Chinese tourist arrivals increased by 43% 2010 to 2011. All the existing resort hotels have very high occupancy rates and are expanding their numbers of rooms.
There are no branded four or five star hotels on the Semporna side of the state. The island of Sipadan is internationally famous for scuba diving and there are many excellent specialist dive resorts. There are large numbers of divers visiting the Semporna area but there is no high quality beach accommodation.
The area has an internationally famous brand which is heavily marketed by the Malaysian government but the accommodation and activities available only cater for the small percentage of visitors who can scuba dive. There is a need for a top quality resort for all the tourists who don’t dive. Large ocean windows in public areas will allow visitors to watch coral reef life from the comfort of the resort lounges. Visitors will experience the beauty of the underwater world from the submarine, the glass bottom boats or by snorkelling in the resorts marine wonderland snorkel pools. A resort is needed that has all the facilities of the main five star hotels in Kota Kinabalu but has a wider range of activities that showcase the natural beauty of the undersea world.
Work achieved so far
